Train Seat Vacancy – Check Vacant Seats and Berths
Train seat vacancy tells you which seats and berths are unoccupied on a train after the reservation chart is prepared. In seated coaches you look for vacant seats; in sleeper and AC coaches you look for vacant berths. RailBerth presents both in one place so you can see what is free before you travel.
Seat vacancy vs berth vacancy
Chair-car and second-sitting coaches have seats, while sleeper and AC coaches have berths such as lower, middle and upper. The idea is the same: after chart preparation, some are empty for all or part of the route. RailBerth shows the vacancy for each coach type and lets you drill into individual seats or berths.
How to check train seat vacancy
- Go to the RailBerth home page.
- Enter the train number and choose the date and boarding station.
- Load the chart and scan the per-coach vacancy counts.
- Open a coach to view each vacant seat or berth and its free segments.
Partially available seats
Just like berths, a seat can be free for only part of the journey. RailBerth marks these as partially available and shows the stations they are vacant between, so you can match a seat to your exact trip rather than relying on a single availability figure.
