Vacant Berth After Chart Preparation
The best time to find a vacant berth is right after chart preparation. That is when waiting lists are cleared, cancellations are reflected, and the real empty berths become visible for a given leg of the journey. RailBerth reads this prepared chart and shows you which berths are vacant and for which stretch of the route.
Why berths free up after the chart is prepared
- Confirmed passengers cancel close to departure.
- Waitlisted tickets that do not clear are dropped from the chart.
- Some berths are booked only for a part of the route, leaving them empty before or after that segment.
- No-shows and quota releases open up additional space.
When exactly is the chart prepared?
The first reservation chart is usually prepared a few hours before the train departs from its origin. A second chart is prepared later for intermediate boarding stations. If you are boarding mid-route, check again after the second chart is ready, because fresh vacancies often appear at that point.
Checking vacant berths after chart preparation
- Open RailBerth and enter your train number.
- Select the journey date and your boarding station.
- Load the chart once it has been prepared for that station.
- Review each coach and open it to see vacant and partially available berths.
Acting on a vacant berth
After you find a suitable vacant berth, book it through the official IRCTC current-booking option or at the reservation counter where available. RailBerth itself does not sell tickets; it only helps you locate the vacancy quickly.
